WOW! That sounds cool. Actually, the site is new but not exactly.

I ended up homeless in California this past summer, so I rode around on Amtrak just feeling free... Before that happened I had launched the site with auction software that I was still trying to work the bugs out of. (I never finished.) Originally I started it with xoops, but decided to try an auction.... I was working on it but life happened and I never finished. Then I forgot all about it.

Well, that was months ago, and suddenly last week I started getting emails from people who wanted to register but couldn't. I checked and the site is ranked way high on google and yahoo. It would take me months to make the auction compatible with php5. I mean, it has about a million files and 2 million errors keeping it from functioning. So I went back to xoops.

So it is "new" but it's already out there.

Will the next version be a standard upgrade?

Mark

YES! It worked. The whole module is working error-free and it looks great. Now I have to re-work the theme and I can launch this thing. YAY! THANK YOU!

Well, I did that and I can VIEW them in admin, BUT it is giving me a max time 30 seconds error when I submit, even though I upped that limit to 600 seconds. HMMMM..... Very strange. I am trying to figure out a way around it. Too bad I can't do each set of group permissions by group. I.E.- view permissions for admins/submit view permissions for registered users/submit, etc. etc....

WAIT, I spoke too soon. That time it went through. Now for submit permissions. I think I have it now.

I tried optimizing the group permissions table in the database and then I updated the module to no avail......

I set permissions for 1164 categories to VIEW and it ended in a white screen but the permissions were set (for admins only) because the categories can all now be viewed by me.... HOWEVER, when I go to try to set permissions now there are no categories visible in admin. AND registered users and anonymous users just get the "You Don't Have Permission" error.

Is there a maximum number of categories you can add to this module? Did I cross that line? It seems like it worked before with no problems....

Hey, that's all we can afford at the moment, but when more of my campaigns pan out, OR when the next grants for the horse rescue come through we'll kick some more. Thanks for all you do man. Maybe others will realize how valuable these modules are and they'll follow my lead.

I am setting up that new site now, and this module is the heart. With the network I've been building I should be able to sell ads using the description field for each category as soon as I build up a user base.

Doing the CSV category thing right now. Importing them 300 at a time. I WAS going to do this site in California, but I got sick of it out there and came back to Colorado. Just had to change the "surfing" category to "mountain sports."

John,

How hard would it be to hack backend.php to feed from this module rather than news? I am using this module on a few sites, and one of them doesn't even HAVE a news module. People try to subscribe to the site feed and all they get is backend.php and the feed is empty.

Thanks,
Mark

Not exactly a PROBLEM.... I am building a site for the whole San Diego area. I am up to just over 589 categories and will be adding over 1000 more. NOW, my worry is the time and bandwidth it takes to apply permissions every time I batch import another 100 categories for a town.

Couldn't there just be a default set of permissions that could be applied to the whole module or something? OR if you could just apply the permissions to the top level categories and have an option to have those apply to all the subcategories of that category...

It takes forever just to load the list of categories in admin, let alone applying the permissions...

The way it is now, it is slow and bulky. It works but it could work better I think.

Once again, one of the best xoops modules out.... Love it.

I really wish I had the knowledge to do this myself. It would be a great contribution to the community.
